I have been to many of the celebrated restaurants throughout the world and am a dedicated oenophile. The union house was absolutely outstanding! The wine list is fantastic and the food was magnificent! We decided to make a meal of appetizers on our recent visit; The oysters Rockefeller was the best that I have tasted in years. We sampled the crab cakes, the brie in puff pastry, the shrimp and mushroom, leek tart (my fave). The flavors were all distinct and complementary. I wish that I would have saved room for dessert; oh well, next time.

Kangaroo tenderloin with a Forefront Pinot Noir..... heaven!! Seriously, go here! Amazing wine list, great service. One of the best meals I've had in a long time, including downtown Milwaukee or Chicago... !

Our server was a little late to our table after arriving, some raised eyebrows from our friends on this "new joint" we picked had me concerned... Moments later we were greeted by a lovely waitress who literally went through more specials from memory than I have ever seen at a restaurant. Each one sounded completely delicious! The specials out numbered the regular menu by at least double! Our chosen fare was varied: Steak, Lamb, Scallops, and a Cornish Hen. Let me say this is one of the few places that has ever satisfied all four of us and our discerning taste buds :) The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is two fold: 1. I ordered Cornish Hen for the sole purpose of trying the mushroom risotto. Sadly enough this was cooked perfectly, however they failed to reduce the risotto properly in a good broth. It had zero flavor and was a major let down as mushroom risotto is my favorite dish. 2. Limited sweet wines that are popular for drinking. Not all wine has to pair up with a meal. My wife loves Moscato - it is extremely popular now and served pretty much everywhere - except here. We will definitely come back as the food over all was outstanding, and from the looks of the crowd has many regulars that have been coming here for years.

The duck here is to die for. In fact, every dish I've had here is awesome. The twin lobster tails are heavenly. The New York strip is the best steak I've ever had - and I work in the restaurant industry and travel extensively. Finally, the wine list is to die for and prices are incredibly reasonable. Service is impeccable. This restaurant is an eleven on a scale of one to ten!

Better have a reservation or you can't get in. 5:00 on Saturday and no one eating - we were turned away.

Great cozy atmosphere with incredible food! Owner & bar tenders very friendly. Make a reservation! Started out with an amazing old fashioned at the bar and a delicious glass of wine. When at the table shared a bottle of recommended red wine with our kangaroo appetizer. Try it! You will be surprised. It reminded me of a fillet and no gaminess. The waitress was helpful with our gluten free request. She pointed out our options which we thoroughly enjoyed. We both had the fillet and it was done to perfection. We had a long drive home so we were unable to enjoy desert but will definitely recommend the Union House to others!

Dinner tonight was a disaster. EVERYTHING was wrong. We waited more than 35 minutes to get a salad. Three house salads were so overdressed that we each choked on it. The special avocado salad was served without avocado -- they ran out! Really? And they charged us full price! Tonic water was flat. The duck was overcooked. My lamb was the smallest portion of lamb I have ever been served -- and although I ordered it medium, it came out rare. I had to send it back. And my wine glass was removed before I was finished. I complained at the bar before I left, but did not want to make a scene with my dining companions. But I will never return. There are too many good restaurants in the Third and Fifth Wards of Milwaukee to waste my time driving to Genesee Depot.

An "in the middle of nowhere" restaurant in Gennesee Depot, which is exactly why this place is the very definition of a "hidden gem!" The food is absolutely amazing, the environment makes you feel like you are in a movie from the 70s and the service is excellent. I have been here on five different occasions and every time, the specials are unique and absolutely delicious. The place is upscale and you would spend a lot of bucks, but it is worth your every penny. The wine selection is decent and the waiters can give you good pairing recommendations. His place offers both exotic and traditional food options. It is definitely a must try!

Every time I get in the car and drive to The Union House - I am excited to arrive and hear about their specials. The wild game entrees they offer are unbelievable! A waitress once told me that "trying the kangaroo will make you very hoppy" ... and boy, was she right! The regular menu is awesome as well. To find this quality in such a small town is such a gift. I am certain their are whole continents on earth that do not have the Scotch selection you'll find there. Wines are also perfect and plentiful. Service is better than great. Incredibly talented and seasoned staff, the owner told me their newest crew member had been there over five years. They know the menu, the ingredients, the preparation. They make accommodations for youngsters, or those with food allergies or special needs. Everything is made fresh. This is not your typical restaurant, perhaps the best in all of Wisconsin or the Midwest. You won't be disappointed - my favorites: Shrimp or oysters Rockefeller for the appetizer. The wild game - just do it! Whatever it is, always perfect. Steaks are perfect. Pecan chicken - out of this world good. Bread pudding, peanut butter cup pie, flour less death by chocolate cake for dessert ... Of course, all homemade and delicious! I wish I could give more than five stars. If you are still reading, call and make a reservation, get in your car and drive there. You can then do as I do and daydream of what exotic deliciousness is their wild game of the night! It will be one of the finest dining experiences ever.

If my friend hadn't been familiar with the place I would have never found it. The wrap-around porch is probably lovely in the summer, while the Christmas decorations were welcoming. The inside is cozy, with a fantastic staff that immediately was glad to see us. The menu is quite small, but the list of specials is its own menu! Each dish is thoughtfully prepared, imaginative, and terribly hard to choose between. The appetizer was a fun first try of escargot for me; buttery and garlicky. The house salad is light, and I'm thankful it wasn't the typical house salad arrangement that other restaurants have: gloppy dressing on iceberg lettuce with tomatoes. Our food arrived quickly, which is great because I was eager to dive into my dinner! The salmon was amazing. Cooked just perfectly, with amazing flavor. I cannot describe it. I forced myself to eat very slowly in order to fully enjoy it. The chatty staff was a pleasure, and I felt comfortable here. I would very much enjoy returning and trying one of the fantastic specials.

Was here last night with my wife. First timer. Food was outstanding; New Zealand Red Deer, South African lobster tail, and Mahi Mahi for main entrees. Baked brie pastry and french onion soup (super sweet due to carmelizing) for appetizers. Service was exceptional. All in all, the $150 bill was worth the experience. We didn't have any wine but they're known for it. Five star, but casual dress was allowed. For a real treat out of downtown Milwaukee I highly recommend the Union House.

I cannot believe this restaurant exists in tiny little blink-and-you'll-miss-it Genesee Depot, WI. This place rivals any restaurant in some of the bigger cities and it has one thing no restaurant in Chicago or New York could ever have: small-town Wisconsin charm. The service was relaxed yet impeccably professional. Not only did our server orate for a full 5 minutes about the plethora of specials, she knew everything about every aspect of the dishes-- from sourcing to preparation. She was also extraordinarily knowledgeable about the wines and whiskeys. The pace of service was relaxed as well, without being too slow. But dining here is an experience, so expect to spend a few hours. When the food came out, our servers wore white gloves and all entrees hit the table at exactly the same moment. Like magic. I had the NY Strip and a lobster tail (it was my birthday, after all) with the best mashed potatoes I've ever eaten. The steak was perfectly prepared (medium rare) and melted in my mouth. Others at the table had the game choice of the day which was white tail deer with a blackberry reduction and sweet potatoes. I got to sample this and it was phenomenal. Also worth mentioning: the French onion soup, bleu beef appetizer (beef tips in demi glacé with Gorgonzola), the house Pinot Noir, the Manhattan, and the delicious smelling chocolate truffle candle in the ladies restroom. Go here. Pick a special occasion and go.

Incredible food and amazing service. I truly appreciate high quality food and this has it, but it's not your typical Wisconsin tavern (although it may look like a supper club from the road). The French onion soup was amazing. Try some type of wild game. This is some of the best money can buy. Some with the lobster tail, one of the best I've ever had. Prices reflect the quality, so be prepared, but for a special occasion, you can't find any better.

Wow! It was Mom's birthday, so we headed on out to Genesee Depot for some of the best food I've had in a while! Started with oysters rock and a summertime must-have, caprese salad. The oysters were so tender and flavorful; the basil in the salad was awesome. Dinner was kangaroo (!!) with mashed sweet potatoes. So good! Others in the crew had giant, tender scallops, and haddock. Dessert rocked, too. This is Wisconsin supper club dining at its finest. My whiskey old fashioned was perfect, and they have a huge wine list. We loved our waitress. When dinner is ready all the staff bring out all the dishes at the same time, all wearing white gloves. Nice touch! And they do have a kiddie menu. This is our new special occasion location!!

I travel a lot and all over the world. This still remains one of my favorite places. I am local so I eat there with clients and every year for anniversary. Kurt is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere can outdated, but for me it's very endearing. I never miss an opportunity to dine there. Tip: I love the wild game specials! Try them!

This was our first visit to Union House Restaurant, April 2011. We had just been to a performance at Ten Chimneys, and had a late dinner here. From the outside it looks like your typical small town restaurant, but the minute you step inside, you get a sense of the quality. The ambiance is cozy, intimate fine-dining/steakhouse. The menu is small, but varied. They have specials as well. We had a cheese plate, escargot, and Oysters Rockefellar for appetizers. Entrees at the table were a Veal special, Pecan Crusted Chicken, and the Filet. We also had a young man with us, and they were very accommodating to him with some menu adjustments. Great wine list, and the sommelier is wonderful! He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and had a great sense of humor. He and my husband rattled off quotes about champagne. Good fun! We had a bottle of Veuve Clicquot, which was on the list, and then talked to the Sommelier again for something special. I didn't hear the whole title...my husband does the wine ordering...but I believe a Corton-Charlemagne (France - Burgundy Chardonnay) for $160.00. It was worth it, and a great recommendation. The whole dinner left a memorable impression on us. I think we will be back again soon, even without the museum visit.

The service was fantastic. From the hostess, to our waitress (Laura, I believe her name was) everyone was smiles, pleasant and outgoing. Wine selection was impressive. The featured artichoke loaded potato soup was great. It's definitely a pricier place. Our table of 8 with many drinks, 2 appetizers, 8 entrees and two desserts ran about $500 with tip but was most definitely worth it. I would recommend it to anyone.

My husband I are defiantly foodies and wine connoisseurs. This could be one of the best restaurants in Wisconsin , perhaps even the Midwest hands down.

My first trip to The Union House was a surprise for my birthday. We had heard great things about it from several people, and it had been on our list of "must-try" for quite some time. We did make a reservation in advance, and were promptly seated, although we arrived about 15 minutes early. The atmosphere is quaint, a characteristic my husband and I both love, and the staff was very welcoming. Only slight complaint was that it took 15 minutes for a server to come to our table - a huge annoyance of mine. However, we were in no rush, so we took the time to relax and take in our surroundings. They have an extensive wine list, and an even more extensive whiskey/bourbon/scotch menu. The menu itself is small, which can be intimidating. Little did we know that once our server did arrive, there were additional "specials" which comprised almost an entirely separate menu! My hubby chose the short ribs and I went with the pecan crusted chicken. He couldn't pass up trying the french onion soup, either, and I don't blame him - it was incredible. I would say my meal topped his, for sure, but there were no complaints on either side. Atmostphere was relaxed, staff was friendly, and food was great. Next trip I would even sit at the bar for a cup of soup and some vino and forego the white table cloth setting for a more relaxed vibe.
